A few days before Christmas Tess Williams rushes into Albert Payne's tobacconist shop, with two boys in hot pursuit, saying she's a thief. Albert chases the boys away, and though Tess does not realise it, this incident changes her life.
Tess lives with her grandmother, Edie, in a small flat on Heyworth Street. She has recently returned from Bell Farm, where she was evacuated during the war. When the handsome Snowy White comes to her rescue she thinks her troubles are over, and returns to Bell Farm for a working holiday. This leaves Edie to her own devices, however, and Tess is jealous of the friendship which blossoms between her grandmother and the tobacconist.

Story is in a small town near Liverpool. I really did enjoy this book it had a great story line. A little too much description for my taste example :- boiling water to make tea. Very interesting how people had to manage post war and how hard it was to find work. The romance side of the story makes unexpected twist and turns and keeps you interested, there is never a dull moment.Product details

A Christmas to Remember (Audible Audio Edition) Katie Flynn Anne Dover Soundings Books Reviews
I loved this. I loved this and it's sparkly cover. Yes, sparkles!
When I see books by Katie Flynn, and indeed other authors of the romantic-saga-type genre, I think Oh, I know what I'm in for. These are the books I turn to when I need something which will make my heart swell and put a huge smile on my face. But boy, this was different. Right from the first pages I knew that although it would still most likely follow the usual formula, there was something which wouldn't.
And that was the main character, Tess.
This book read a little like a young adult and I seriously enjoyed it. Tess is a young adult herself and this follows her tough journey through post-evacuation life living with her only relative, her gran. We see her try to figure out who she loves, we see her grow up and we see her realise that she was a little selfish at times and work to rectify that.
There are twists and turns and oh-my-gosh moments all through this, and although the ending was a little fast for me, I will certainly read this again.
No matter your age, I think you'll enjoy this. This book is so much more than the genre it's in, and it's a book for everyone to enjoy. This is a book for all times of the year, not just Christmas, despite what the cover implies - I would have been just as comfortable and content reading this in the height of summer!
This book starts out a few days before Christmas and ends several years later a few days before Christmas which makes it the perfect novel to read at this time of year.
Tess Williams lives with her grandmother Edie in a small flat in Liverpool. She has just returned from the Bell Farm where children were evacuated during the war. Jonty Bell was her pal while she was on the farm. Once she arrived in Liverpool she found that her mother had died and there was no family but her grandmother, or the person whom she thought was her grandmother. She is now being bullied at school at school because she is the new kid. Snowy White comes to her rescue and assures that no one else bullies her.
During the summer she returns to the Bell Farm for a working holiday and her grandmother becomes friends with Albert and Tess is jealous. When things go haywire she turns to Albert for help. Life becomes a quandary for her because she promised to wait for Snowy to return from the military yet her heart belongs to Jonty, her longtime friend. How can she hurt either one of them? That is one of the questions that will be answered in this book.
This was and easy to read entertaining book. I found it to be a heart-warming post-war romance. There is no foul language or explicit sex scenes, so it would be perfect for the young adult or anyone for that matter.
Disclosure I was given a copy of this eBook by the publisher, Random House UK – North America, through NetGalley blogger program for review. I was not required to write a favorable review nor was I compensated for my review. The opinions in this review are my own.
This is a sweet holiday read. Very enjoyable and a good clean story. Only the first Katie Flynn I have read but will be sure to look out for more.
